Common use
Trandate is used in treatment of high blood pressure. It belongs to adrenergic receptor blocker and works by blocking alpha y beta receptors, lowering blood pressure.
Dosage and directions
Usually the medicine is given as an injection in your doctor's office. If you are going to use it at home your doctor will teach you how to do it.
Precautions
Tellyou doctor if you have any medical conditions especially about pregnancy, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, if you have any allergies, if you have diabetes, adrenal galn tumor, kidney and liver problems or thyroid problems, heart problems, low blood pressure, or a history of heart failure or heart attack, recent surgery.
Contraindications
Do not use Trandate if you have allergy to any of its components, second- or third-degree heart block,heart failure, abnormal heart function test, moderate to severe first-degree heart block after a heart attack, asthma, severe slow heartbeat or severe low blood pressure.
Possible side effects
the most common side effects include pain, swelling, redness, nausea, dizziness; indigestion; lightheadedness; stuffy nose; temporary tingling of the scalp; unusual tiredness.
Seek medical attention if an of the following serious side effects occur:allergic reactions, dark urine,fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; mental or mood changes; chest pain, decreased sexual ability; muscle pain or tenderness; persistent loss of appetite; right upper stomach pain; shortness of breath; slow heartbeat; swelling of the hands or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; vision changes; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Drug interactions
Take your doctor about all prescribed and not prescribed medicines, especially about: digoxin, calcium channel blockers, general anesthetics, nitroglycerin, beta-agonists.
Missed dose
Skip the missed dose if your next dose is less than 8 hours away. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include shortness of breath; severe dizziness or weakness, especially upon standing; slow heartbeat. If you suspect an overdose, call to local poison center.
Storage
Store away from light and moisture as directed by your doctor. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
